Juneteenth is a meaningful moment in American history. It commemorates the day—June 19, 1865—when enslaved people in Texas finally received word of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, it’s recognized as a federal holiday and serves as a time to reflect, celebrate progress, and continue the pursuit of equality.
For residents of Hebron 121 Station, Juneteenth is also an opportunity to connect with the local community and show support in ways that make a difference.
Lewisville will host its annual Juneteenth Celebration Concert on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Wayne Ferguson Plaza from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. This free, outdoor event features live music from the David Whiteman Band, along with food trucks and a welcoming atmosphere. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, invite a few neighbors, and enjoy a night of music and community connection.
This concert is part of Lewisville’s broader initiative to highlight diversity and inclusion through the city’s Listen Learn Lead program.
Supporting Black-Owned Businesses
One of the most powerful ways to observe Juneteenth is by investing in the future—and that includes supporting Black-owned businesses. Across Lewisville and the surrounding DFW area, there are incredible entrepreneurs and creators contributing to the community in meaningful ways.
Here are a few helpful places to discover Black-owned businesses near you:
-
Texas Black Pages – Lewisville Listings: A state-wide directory of Black-owned businesses, many of which serve the Lewisville area.
-
BuyBlack.org – Lewisville: A searchable resource featuring a variety of local businesses across industries.
-
Dallas Black Business Directory: A regional guide to businesses throughout the DFW metroplex, from restaurants and salons to professional services.
If you’re grabbing coffee, looking for a new service provider, or shopping for gifts this summer, consider choosing a business from one of these directories. It’s a small change that can lead to lasting impact.
